FT-9 Driver

Callaway's FT-9 driver is designed for "shot shaping" and a customized approach to the game. You can even choose between draw or fade configurations. This driver's face design uses what Callaway calls "hyperbolic face technology". Essentially, this club is a bit more forgiving, with an increased sweet spot. So, who on the PGA tour plays this club right now? Well, check out what's in Phil's bag, a leading Callaway player, to see if he's chosen to play this club.

Gay Wins The Heritage, McIlroy Tops In Driving Distance

10 strokes under the next closest golfer. 20 strokes under par. In a word: impressive. Brian Gay had a tremendous final round, shooting a 64 in the last day of the 2009 Verizon Heritage in Hilton Head.

Who led the tournament in driving distance? Rory McIlroy with an average of 298.9 yards per drive.

Saturday

Brian Gay Lead at The Heritage

Alex Cejka, who led after the first day at the 2009 Verizon Heritage is still in the hunt at 6 under, but it's the American Brian Gay who is currently leading the tourney by 3 at 13 under.

Gay has averaged 256 yards per drive over his three rounds so far, which ties for 72nd overall at the tournament. The telling stat however, is Gay's greens in regulation. He's tied for second overall with 68.5 average greens in regulation. He's also second in driving accuracy after three rounds.

Watson's Swing in Slow Mo

In 2007, we took a look at Bubba Watson's drive swing. Well, since he's been consistent with his long drives, (he's currently the 2009 PGA Tour leader in driving distance) let's take another look, in slow motion, of how this guy absolutely crushes the ball.

Weekly in the Hunt, Cejka Leads

With most golfers having completed their first round, Cejka still leads the group with a 7 under par. The longest driver at the tournament so far? Kent Jones with a 312.5 yard average.

And Boo Weekly going for his threepeat is well in the hunt at 2 under after 18 with a first round 69.

Cejka Leading The Heritage

As of 1:30 pm EST, German Alex Cejka is leading The Verizon Heritage at Hilton Head, SC. He has shot an impressive 64 on the par 71 course. Cejka, who doesn't currently rank higher than 40th on any of the major PGA stat categories, is showing he is a real comptetitor at Harbour Town today.

Many of the big dogs have yet to play more than a few holes, but of those who are in the clubhouse today, Lee Janzen, Trevor Immelman, and Brian Gay are all four under or better.

The Group to Watch at The 2009 Heritage

If you were running your own Golf Channel, which group of golfers would you be following at The Verizon Heritage? Easy question to answer this year. Davis Love III (a five time winner of The Heritage), will be playing with Steve Flesch and back-to-back winner and current champion (not to mention fan-favorite) Boo Weekly, and lefty Steve Flesch. Golf really does need more guys like Boo; he keeps the game interesting for all types of fans.

Keep an eye on how your favorite golfer is doing at The Heritage here.

A Longer, Straighter Drive?

That's the claim from Cobra, about their S9-1 Pro Driver. (Technically, they say it provides more distance and accuracy). Cobra had Golf Digest publication readers test out the clubs and they provided their feedback. See their results here.

Check out the pics of the black and gold S9-1 driver here.

Here's another pic and a detail of the differences between the S9-1 Pro S and Pro D.

Monday

2 for 2 at The Verizon Heritage

The PGA Tour does continue. Hard to believe, but they will be playing golf this week. Tough to follow up the tournament played in Georgia last week. Well, at least they won't have to go far to follow it up. The Heritage will be played at Harbour Town in Hilton Head, SC.

Playing twice in this tournament, tour favorite Boo Weekly has won it both times. Can he make it three in a row?

2009 Masters Final Round

For those of you who might have missed yesterday's golf action, here's the final round recap from Augusta.

A Masters Win For A Club Maker

Not only was Sunday's Masters great for fans of golf, it was also great for a certain golf club manufacturer. Angel Cabrera became the first Ping staff player to win the Masters. See what's in Cabrera's bag here

Sunday

A Masters For The History Books

What a finish, what a Masters! In one for the golf history book, two behemoths battled it out in the final round, while three less likely winners took to a playoff to decide who would wear the green jacket. In the end, as the weekend was wrapping up, it might have been the least expected golfer today who came out on top. See the full story here.

Mickelson Charging

Don't look now, but here comes Phil. Playing alongside the greatest golfer in the world, Phil is proving he is still a top competitor in this game. The leaders have just teed off and they need to stay on course today, so they aren't caught and passed by Phil.

AP Update from 1st Round of The Masters

Golfing Bodybuilder?

Did you see the bodybuilder playing the course at Augusta yesterday? Dude's arms are huge and he's got a scuplted V back. Well, he looks like he could have been a developing bodybuilder. It was just Tiger Woods.

Seriously, does he look even more fit and muscular than he has in years past? Guy is just an all around animal. In the weightroom, on the golf course, and as a marketer.

So, he's off to a decent start, having put up a 70 yesterday. He's tied for 20th with that score after one round, along with previous winner Zach Johnson and yes, you guessed it, "The Shark". Maybe the only man on the course who could take the spotlight away from Tiger.

If you told Tiger that being in 20th position after the first round was an extremely good sign, he might give you a bit of a funny glance. But it is. Tiger has won this thing four times, going for his fifth, and guess what? Each of the previous times he's worn the green jacket on Sunday, he's been in 20th position after the first round. Hmmmmm. Anyone wanna bet that Tiger wins this thing?

Wednesday

A Return To Augusta

He just might be the most talked about superstar at the Masters this week. He is very familiar with the course in Augusta. He has been the main attraction at many PGA events, at one point holding the top ranking on the Tour for over 300 weeks. I'm not talking about Tiger Woods here. I'm talking about "The Shark", Greg Norman.

He's qualified for the Masters this year as a direct result of his amazing performance at the past British Open. Can he repeat that type of performance at Augusta, and take it one notch higher to earn the elusive green jacket? We'll know by Sunday night.
